NAPP Photo Walk

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The World Wide Photo Walk was July 18th and I joined in for some fun. The route was around Fairly Poplar in downtown Atlanta. It was a big group of 50 photographers — from hobbiest to pro level — walking around town taking photos for fun. Here are a few of my shots for that day.

We wrapped up the walk with lunch at Taco Mac. I hadn’t been there in over a year… and YES, it broke every diet rule. Of course that means it was yummy :D

We talked photography and even came to find out that some of us also shared the love for riding. Who knew we had a town called Juliette? Apparently it’s most known for being the movie set for the series “A Killing Affair” and “Fried Green Tomatoes” (which I’ve never seen but most of you probably have). The Whistle Stop Cafe is there. Juliette also has a really cool building that is home to Les White and is now the Old Mill Motorcycle Museum. I made my longest road trip so far on my bike to visit the town last week. Fun ride! Thanks Ken for the tip!

Something Beautiful

Friday, July 24th, 2009

At least I thought so when I noticed this eccentric looking tree in the open field. Looks like the wind was blowing south all the time and it’s branches started to curl up. But there is something graceful about it. It looks beautiful to me.

Bloody Vampires!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

I blogged previously about the Grand Central photo shoot with a vampire. Originally I hadn’t planned on processing this photo, but I changed my mind and decided to make it a bit more interesting without going heavy on the gore. Nothing wrong with gore, but it’s easy to go overboard with it (seems highly overdone these days) and I wanted to have a cinematic feel — dramatic, while still keeping it easy on the eyes. Hopefully I’ve accomplished that.

I purchased theater blood for this photo shoot but forgot to use it! So I created it in post processing :)

Inspiration Point

Friday, July 10th, 2009

There is a building in Seattle that I’m crazy about. I go there often and it’s featured in much of my work: Seattle City Hall — specifically, the Red Room and adjoining staircase. Some days I simply walk through the space to be reminded of why I love light, color, architecture, and photography. It’s my Inspiration Point.

When Marilyn and I were in NY I started experimenting with zooming (see previous blog entry Times Square’s “Spectaculars”). And then the other day I decided to try out the technique with architecture. Of course I went to my favorite spot. The results — wonderfully abstract — are unusual, colorful, shapely, exciting. Each zoom result is unique. The slightest change in position, light, manual zoom speed, and exposure can create an entirely different look. Super fun to shoot.
