What She Said

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Our last day in Chicago was one long downpour, so we decided to make the best of it and visit the Art Institute. Little did I know what amazing pieces were waiting inside but, first things first … we needed tickets!

We shuffled over to the ticket counter and were greeted by a pleasant lady. By the end of this transaction I was rolling with laughter. :)) Seems Candice misunderstood the question she was asked.

So what did the lady at the ticket counter ask?

  1. What’s your best pose?
  2. What’s that on your nose?
  3. What color are your toes?
  4. What’s your zip code?

Candice paused, clearly baffled, halfheartedly struck a pose, then asked for clarification on the question. The lady couldn’t possibly be asking what she heard, right?! LOL. The moment was priceless. We all had a good laugh and that lovely museum employee will probably be telling that story every time someone misunderstands her question. :))

The museum came with an unexpected surprise for me. When I looked through the hallway opening and saw Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grand-Jatte (1884 – 1886) by Georges Seurat, it took my breath away. It was huge and all inspiring. Oh … and Monet? He was next door. :) I won’t go on about it. Suffice to say, it was a fantastic day. Here are some random snapshots from our Chicago weekend (mostly iPhone shots in the mix). You can find more snaps in the iPhone Diaries.

Springtime in Chicago

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

A weekend in Chicago is never long enough. Ever. This is one of my favorite cities in the US — arguably, THE city for architecture — and I could spend weeks (granting good weather) wandering the streets, parks, and shoreline. This was Marilyn’s first trip to Chicago, so we tried to do the impossible: see sights, shoot urban scenery AND models, eat yummy food, and of course drink wine and laugh a lot. We arrived on a gorgeous Friday (yay, sunshine!) and met models Stephanie King and Nick Myers for dinner. They’re not professional models, but they very kindly agreed to act like it so we could shoot a little romance and have it be credible. Stephanie and Nick are good friends of mine and romantic partners in real life. But, trust me, that’s where the schmaltz ends cos what they really are is hysterically funny. I’m pretty sure we laughed the entire time we were with them Saturday afternoon - hopefully their exquisite humor shows through in the shots we took. Sunday was rainy and miserable so we spent hours at the Art Institute, a fantastic museum, and then ran like maniacs in the rain to a nearby pizza parlor where we sat, drenched, and ate delicious pizza. All in all, a fabulous weekend. Many thanks to Stephanie and Nick. We will be calling on you again.

Little secret: Mild mannered Marilyn is obsessed with coffee. I indulged her.

Another little secret (has anyone else noticed this?): Marilyn has a thing about shooting reflections. Again, I indulged her. :)
