Okefenokee Swamp

I took an impromptu trip to Okefenokee Swamp for a couple of days. A little distraction from daily life was needed. It was about a 4.5hr drive but I took an exit to explore some cotton fields. More on that in another post.

Had a little scare as soon as we arrived and parked. My kids got out of the car. In a few seconds time my little girl said, “look Mom they put a statue of an alligator there.” I ran towards her as she was, thankfully, walking away from it. It was no statue. That’s when the briefing immediately began - EVERYTHING IN THE SWAMP IS REAL – DO NOT leave my side! *holy #@&% crap*

My kids took their first boat ride. They absolutely loved it.

The center of the bridge shows traces of the 2007 fires.

An alligators nest. Looks like a large mound from a distance.

We saw Woody! Woodpeckers were flying around pecking from tree to tree. These were pretty big. Wish I had a longer lens to capture them. This is a crop of a larger composition.

I have many more photos I’ll probably continue to share. It was a peaceful trip – even though you feel a bit paranoid walking around looking at every corner for a possible wild animal :) It was a great way to get away from the daily noise. Highly recommend it.

Day Hike at DeSoto Falls

Time to Explore Some More

Spring is here though you’d never know it with today’s weather. Georgia has many hidden gems and I’ve only begun to explore them.  Here are a few I’ve processed recently.

Lover’s Leap in Lookout mountain borders the state so I guess it counts ;)

Next month calls for the beach.

Anna Ruby Falls

We took a day to go hike up to see the Anna Ruby Falls in the North Georgia mountains. We were prepared for weather in the 30s but it ended up being quite pleasant – probably because there was no wind to deal with.

An FYI for anyone going to visit – they have changed the fees. It’s no longer $4 per car but instead $2 per person older than 12 years of age.

I got a chance to use my 6-stop ND filter.
